For a large room, the honest answer is that no single plug-in heater covers it. 1,500 W is the U.S. outlet ceiling and covers about 150 sq ft. A 300 sq ft living room needs roughly 3,000 W — two heaters on two circuits, or one heater plus a turned-down furnace.

Every row from 200 sq ft up needs more than one plug-in heater's worth of output. That does not mean a single heater is useless in a 300 sq ft room — it means the heater will run continuously and will raise the room by a few degrees rather than to a setpoint. Whether that is enough depends on what the rest of the house is doing.

The arithmetic is not close. 1,000 sq ft at 10 W/sq ft needs about 10,000 W; a 120 V outlet delivers at most 1,500 W. A listing claiming that coverage is describing how far a fan throws air, not how much heat it makes. If a coverage figure would require more than 1,500 W, treat the whole listing as marketing copy rather than a specification — including the parts you were relying on.
A second 1,500 W heater on the same circuit
Two 1,500 W heaters is a legitimate answer to a 300 sq ft room, but only on two different circuits. Together they draw 25 A, and a 15 A branch circuit supports 12 A continuous. Plugging both into the same room's outlets usually means the same circuit, and the failure mode is a warm breaker before it is a tripped one. Work it through here.
Placement matters more here than in any other room
In a small room, a heater's position barely matters — the volume is small enough that convection sorts it out. In a large room it decides whether the unit works. Put it on the coldest wall, usually the exterior one, ideally under or near a window if you can do it while keeping the 3-foot clearance from curtains. Heating the cold side means the warm air crosses the room to reach you; heating the warm side means it never leaves.
Second: do not put it behind furniture. A sofa back in front of a fan-forced heater absorbs the output and creates exactly the “hot appliance touching a soft furnishing” arrangement the fire statistics are made of.

About 4,000 W at 10 W per square foot, which is nearly three plug-in heaters. In practice that means turning the main heating system down and using one or two heaters to carry the room, not replacing the system.
Can a space heater heat a whole living room?+
It can raise a living room's temperature by a few degrees and it can make the corner you sit in comfortable. Taking a cold 300+ sq ft room to a setpoint on 1,500 W alone is beyond what the outlet can deliver.
Is it safe to run two space heaters in one room?+
Only if they are on different branch circuits. Two 1,500 W heaters draw 25 A together, and a 15 A circuit supports 12 A continuously. Check which outlets share a breaker before you plug in the second one.
Do infrared heaters work better in large rooms?+
Often yes, because radiant heat warms you and nearby surfaces directly instead of trying to raise the temperature of a large volume of air. It does not produce more heat — it just delivers what it has where you are standing.
