This site earns commission on purchases made through its links. Here is exactly how that works and what we do to stop it distorting the picks.

The short version

Glow & Gauge is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. We earn a commission on qualifying purchases made through links on this site, at no additional cost to you.

Our Amazon Associates tag is glowandgauge-20. Every product link on this site carries it.

What we earn from, and what we do not

We earn from: commission on qualifying purchases when you follow a product link from this site to a retailer and buy something. That is currently one retailer: Amazon.

We do not earn from: sponsored posts, paid placements, paid rankings, display advertising, newsletter sponsorships, or manufacturers sending us products. We have accepted none of those and do not intend to.

Some links on this site go to manufacturer websites — Dreo, Vornado, Lasko, De'Longhi, Dr. Infrared Heater — as citations for published specifications. We earn nothing from those. They are references, not recommendations to buy there, and they carry no tracking.

The mechanism that keeps this honest

Every affiliate site says commission does not influence its rankings. Saying it is free, so here is what we actually do instead.

  • Picks are selected before links are attached. A unit gets into a roundup by fitting a stated room size, publishing its wattage, and publishing its safety features. Whether it has an affiliate link at all is checked afterwards.
  • Every roundup names something to skip, with the arithmetic that makes it a mismatch. That is a countable signal you can verify by reading any roundup on the site, and it is the opposite of what commission-optimized content does.
  • Commission rate plays no part in ordering. The top pick of a roundup is the unit that best fits the room the page is about, and several of our top picks are among the cheapest units we cover.
  • We publish what a product is not for. Every product entry carries a “not for” paragraph naming the rooms and uses where it is the wrong buy.
  • We tell you when the honest answer is not to buy anything. The garage roundup opens by explaining that no plug-in heater solves a garage. The “cheapest to run” page is a correction rather than a product pick.

Where disclosure appears

In three places, per FTC guidance that a material connection must be disclosed clearly and conspicuously, close to the recommendation:

  • A line in the footer of every page on the site, including pages with no product links on them at all.
  • A block above the first affiliate link on every page that carries product recommendations.
  • A note under every buy button, marked #ad, linking back to this page.

How prices work

We never write a price into a page. Prices render from a live data layer, refreshed daily, and every displayed price carries the date it was checked. A price older than 48 hours disappears rather than being shown stale.

When no live price is available, the button says “check price on Amazon” and links to the listing. That is the current state of this site: the live price service is not yet provisioned, so no price is displayed anywhere. We would rather show no number than one that has gone stale.

Cookies and tracking

Following an affiliate link sets a cookie at the retailer that attributes a subsequent purchase to this site, typically for 24 hours in Amazon’s case. We do not receive your name, address, payment details or order contents — only aggregate commission reporting.

This site also uses Google Analytics to count page views and outbound product clicks in aggregate. What we can see is that a link was clicked, not who clicked it. The privacy policy covers this in full.

Questions people actually ask

Does Glow & Gauge get paid to recommend specific heaters?

No. We accept no sponsored placements, no paid rankings and no free products. We earn a commission when a reader buys through a link, and that commission is the same whichever unit they buy.

Does buying through your links cost me more?

No. The price you pay is the same whether you use a link here or go to the retailer directly. The commission comes out of the retailer's margin.

How do I know the picks are not just the highest-paying products?

Two mechanisms: picks are selected before links are attached, and every roundup publishes something to skip with the arithmetic behind it. A publisher optimizing for commission does not publish reasons not to buy.

What is a /go link?

Every outbound product link on this site routes through a /go redirect, which attaches the affiliate tag server-side and then sends you to the retailer. It keeps tagged URLs out of the page source and lets us change a destination without rewriting content.
