The De'Longhi HMP1500 is a fanless micathermic panel heater with two published settings — 1,500 W and 750 W — an adjustable thermostat, a frost mode that holds a room above 41°F, and a thermal cutoff plus internal tip-over switch. It is about three inches deep and can be wall-mounted.

Why a mica panel is a genuinely different object

A micathermic heater wraps its element in sheets of mica, a mineral that radiates heat well and insulates electrically. The result sits between the two types either side of it, and the position is a useful one:

  • Silent, like an oil-filled radiator. There is no fan, so there is nothing to hear at 3 a.m. and nothing stirring dust, pollen or dander around the room.
  • Fast, unlike an oil-filled radiator. With almost no thermal mass to warm first, it reaches working temperature in a couple of minutes rather than twenty to thirty.

Frost mode, and what it is actually for

The standby setting holds a room above 41°F. That is not a comfort setting — nobody is sitting in a 41°F room — it is a pipe-protection setting for a space you are not using: a garage utility corner, a vacation property, a spare room over a crawlspace during a cold snap.

It is a genuinely useful feature, and it is worth being clear that it does not turn this into an unattended appliance. The panel gets hot. That is the mechanism, not a defect — a radiant panel radiates because its surface is hot.
